:: Inspiration

A busy couple of weeks has meant the neverendinglist has turned into a bit of a stopystartylist recently and I guess I’ve been needing some inspiration to get it moving again. The thing I’ve found with inspiration is that it doesn’t always come from within and sometimes moments or others inspire us. Nothing can empasize this more than the simple sheet of handwriting that came home from school along with junior senior. At first sight a fairly innocuous piece of work nestled within a batch of sketches and paintings that mark the passing of another school year. For whatever reason this one held my gaze and my eyes began to follow the words across the page from line to line.

It would be fair to say that Rhys hasn’t taken to reading naturally and has needed a fair bit of coaching and help along the way. Slowly but surely though letters have become words, words have turned into sentences and sentences have started to create stories. In this case a story with a bigger story of perseverance and dedication behind it and that in itself makes it one I won’t forget in a hurry. So it seems fitting that a little extract makes an appearance here.

The Magical Ice Cave

The walls of the ice cave were as sparkly as glitter. It was curved like a gigantic wave, the icicles were see-through. The floor was as sparkly as a diamond dancing floor. It made me feel like I was in a freezer. My footsteps echoed like someone stamping. The ice was like a mirror. I suddenly felt alone. Something magical was about to happen…

By Rhys

I’ve been mulling a few ideas over in my own head recently. What if it was an idea that was set in motion and not just a metaphor? What if perseverance and dedication helped me write a simple story in the same way as my son? Either way I’m liking the inspiration and for some reason the footsteps seems so relevant. But just what can those footprints turn into?
