:: Book Club #1

A million miles in a thousand years – Donald Miller.

Thought I’d start a new feature for the neverendinglist! I’ve read more books this year than I think I’ve read in my whole lifetime. Some good, some bad. I like this one though and the concept seems to echo the sentiments of the script for life. Given my limited literary prowess I’m not going to undertake a comprehensive review of the books I read, instead I’m going highlight those from which the words have left some sort of impression.

I’ll let the author’s note do the talking on this one because I kinda like the message that sums up how he learned to live a better life!

“If you watched a movie about a guy who wanted a Volvo and worked for years to get it, you wouldn’t cry at the end when he drove off the lot, testing the windshield wipers. You wouldn’t tell your friends you saw a beautiful movie or go home and put a record on to think about the story you’d seen. The truth is, you wouldn’t remember that movie a week later, except you’d feel robbed and want your money back. Nobody cries at the end of a movie about a guy who wants a Volvo.

But we spend years actually living those stories, and expect our lives to feel meaningful. The truth is, if what we choose to do with our lives won’t make a story meaningful, it won’t make a life meaningful either….”

Nothing else to add myself, other than I don’t want to look back on Friday 20th October 2051 and think about a Volvo I once had!
